According to the Chicago Sun-Times, former Wilco member Jay Bennett has died at the age of 45. The multi-instrumentalist that went solo after an inharmonious split with Jeff Tweedy and Wilco following the completion of their seminal album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. He made headlines recently for suing Jeff Tweedy for royalties due to him. There is no word on the cause of his death.
Magnet has a new Wrens demo entitled "Z" on their Wrens Watch Page. The band is slowly working through new material for their next record, the long anticipated follow up to 2003's "The Meadowlands" The Wrens - Z [MP3]
According to Colin Greenwood (via BBC 6), Radiohead have entered the studio with longtime producer Nigel Godrich to begin recording their follow up to 2007's "In Rainbows." According the Greenwood, "It’s at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we're just looking at all the bits and thinking what’s next?" Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll have that Radiohead stroke of genius attached to it.
I missed this last week, but Broken Social Scene is also working on a new album that isn't a "BSS presents" record, but instead a proper follow up to 2005's "Broken Social Scene." Breaking from old producer Dave Newfeld, the band will work with Tortoise's John McEntire on the new record. Says band co-leader and supporter of love Kevin Drew, "It’s at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we're just looking at all the bits and thinking what’s next?" Well Kevin, if it's better than the BSS Presents records and as epic as "BSS" or "You Forgot it in People," then that will be good enough for me.
As my tenure as a DJ for WDUB has ended, this blog is going to be changing a little bit. Andrew and I are working on a way to make it better, but for now, expect to see more general posting as, come Monday, I'll be completely done with classes. I'm also trying to figure out the possibility of doing a podcast and the legality behind that, so stay tuned for more information! Now, how about some awesome stuff:
1. Wilco (The Album) Cover Yep. This is it. And it's amazing.
2. Animal Collective on Letterman Dave had a few jokes to go with AC's performance on his show last night, but their performance of "Summertime Clothes" is pretty awesome, especially the dancers. Check it out below.
3. New Jason Lytle Video I was fan of Grandaddy, and I have to say that the new album from former front man Jason Lytle, Yours Truly, the Commuter, is fantastic. Here's the video for the track "I Am Lost (And the Moment Cannot Last)."
